Sign in and share your tracker

This tutorial takes two people through sharing one tracker: signing in, inviting someone by username, and handing a join code to someone who has no login yet. You need the server's address and a login from whoever runs it.

1. Sign in

Open the server's address. The sign-in dialog appears; enter your username and password. The header now reads Saved to the server as you · account: the last word is the account you're looking at. Your first account is named after you.

If this is a fresh account, add your students under Rules & settings before anything else (the Overview reminds you).

2. Add something to share

Mark a line in the category tree or log an expense, so there's something to see from the other side.

3. Invite someone who already has a login

Go to Rules & settings › Sharing. Under Invite by username, type their username and click Invite. They appear under Members as invited, not accepted yet.

When they next sign in, their header shows 1 invitation. Clicking it opens the Sharing panel, where Accept joins your account. They now belong to two accounts (their own and yours), and their header grows a dropdown to switch between them.

4. Make the shared account the default

While looking at the shared account, the newcomer opens the Sharing panel and clicks Make this my default. From now on, signing in lands them there. Each browser also remembers the last account it showed.

5. Bring in someone who has no login

Click Make a join code. A code appears once; it works one time and expires after a week. Pass it on however you like; the tracker sends no emails.

They open the server's address, click Have a join code? Create a login on the sign-in dialog, pick a username and password and paste the code. They land straight in your account, which is their only account.

A code also works for someone who already has a login: they paste it under Join with a code in the Sharing panel.

6. See the same thing

Everything is shared: students, every decision, every log entry, the Overview and the totals. A change by one member shows up for the others within about twenty seconds, or as soon as they return to the tab. See How changes reach other devices.

Members are equal: anyone can invite, remove a member, rename the account or leave. The last member can't leave but can delete the account. The details are in Accounts.
